Sockets, lights or circuits failing? Brief electricians once.
FixQuotes turns the electrical issue into a clear repair brief, asks the safety questions first, and routes fixed electrical work to competent electricians. Quotes come back against the same scope where local supply supports it.
- For dead sockets, flickering lights, tripping circuits, consumer-unit access and minor remedials
- Safety prompts for sparks, burning smells and whole-property power loss
- Part P / competent-person status flagged where fixed electrical work requires it
- Free for landlords, agents and property managers — no account required
Electrical repairs need a safer intake than generic lead forms
A vague 'electrics not working' lead is not enough. The contractor needs to know whether the whole property has lost power, whether one circuit is affected, whether the consumer unit is accessible, when the issue started, and whether there are sparks or burning smells that need immediate safety action.
The FixQuotes intake captures those answers before contact details and before optional photos. That keeps the brief useful without making the user upload unsafe or unnecessary images.
EICR is different from an electrical repair
An EICR is a periodic inspection and certificate. An electrical repair is a fault or remedial job: dead sockets, tripping RCDs, light fittings, damaged accessories, replacement consumer-unit parts, or C1/C2 remedials after an inspection.
If the job is compliance-led, use the EICR quotes page. If something is broken now, start here and describe the fault.
What makes quotes comparable
Good electrical repair quotes separate diagnosis from remedial work, state whether parts are included, name any consumer-unit or accessory assumptions, show VAT and callout fees, and state whether certification or minor works paperwork is included.
If the electrician needs to diagnose on site before a firm repair price, that should be declared plainly rather than disguised as a fixed quote.
What’s in every quote
Every quote we return for this job type uses the same template, so the prices are easy to put side by side. You’ll see:
- Fault summary: whole property, one area, fittings, sockets, tripping, sparks or burning smell
- Consumer-unit access and urgency
- Whether diagnosis is fixed-price, hourly or deducted from repair
- Parts, labour, callout, VAT and return-visit position
- Part P / competent person details where fixed electrical work requires it
- Safety caveats and missing-information flags where needed
Part P and electrical safety
Fixed electrical work in domestic property should be completed by a competent electrician, and notifiable work must comply with Part P of the Building Regulations. FixQuotes flags the credential requirement in the brief and asks contractors to state their competent-person scheme where relevant.
Where works require legally regulated qualifications (for example Gas Safe registration for gas works, or Part P competence for fixed electrical work), users should verify the contractor's credentials directly before authorising the work.
Common questions
Can I use this for an emergency electrical fault?
Use the form to start the brief, but do not wait on a quote if there is immediate danger. Sparks, burning smells or fire risk should be isolated if safe and escalated urgently.
Do I need photos?
No. Photos can help for damaged fittings or consumer units, but they are optional and should only be taken if safe.
Will the electrician quote without visiting?
Some faults can be priced from a brief; others need diagnosis on site. The quote should make that distinction clear.
Is this the same as an EICR?
No. EICR is an inspection and report. This page is for repair or remedial work. If you need an inspection certificate, use the EICR page.
